When we value each other and respect other’s skills and opinions – we’re Made for More. Diversity is an important part of the WesTrac philosophy and culture. We've put together Diversity & Inclusion (D&I) Committees in both states, whose purpose is to support and encourage diversity (of thought, opinion and people) across WesTrac through the delivery and promotion of inclusive events and initiatives within the business and community. Diversity brings different talents together, all of them working towards a common goal using different sets of skills.

Why the need for diversity?

A diverse workplace is more respectful, productive, profitable and, most importantly, safe – diversity also creates a workplace we can all be proud of. Safety, Pride and Respect make up three of our SPARC values.

We know that education reduces ignorance – the more we educate team members about social and cultural differences, the more we become accepting of differences and accountable when we’re not.

Celebrating the achievements of women

The biggest inclusive event that the D&I committee supports and promotes each year is IWD – a global day that celebrates the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women.

IWD events are held yearly at our head offices in WA and NSW. At these events, speakers (internal and external) tell celebratory stories and discuss relevant issues such as gender diversity and parity. Feedback stemming from these events is then utilised internally to help make WesTrac a more diverse and inclusive workplace.

Helping kick start a career in construction

WesTrac is committed to providing an environment where Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander people are set up for success by delivering the support, training and opportunities that will allow for a rewarding career or working relationship with WesTrac.

WesTrac supports Olabud Doogethu, an organisation in the Shire of Halls Creek that runs various programs to lower crime, one of which involves training local men on Caterpillar equipment to help them kick start a career in the civil construction industry.

GENERATIONAL

Age isn't a barrier at WesTrac

Our apprenticeship program is a dynamic learning experience where students work and learn in state-of-the-art facilities on world-leading Cat equipment. Through the WesTrac Institute (RTO 50737), we provide nationally accredited training. This program has no age limit for mature-age apprentices. Ricky Reynolds is a WesTrac Apprentice who started in 2018 when he was 39-years old.

Closing the gender gap in mining and construction

The gender pay gap in Australia is still prevalent. There remains a lot of work to be done to close it. Policy initiatives to bridge the gap include access to parental leave and flexible working arrangements, pay equity and greater female representation in leadership positions. ABILITY

Attracting and retaining diverse talent

Employing people with disability is not just about “doing the right thing”; it makes good business sense, economically as well as in terms of corporate reputation.

WesTrac also support Activ to provide people living with disability across metropolitan and regional Western Australia with meaningful employment.
