The Cat® Next Generation Productivity Class Mining Trucks

The mining industry is evolving fast, and so is the equipment that powers it. We’re proud to announce that the full range of Cat Next Generation (Next Gen) Productivity Class Mining Trucks has landed and is in the process of being delivered by WesTrac to several mine sites across Australia.

These trucks are a leap forward in productivity, safety, efficiency, and operator experience and are already making an impact on BHP, Northern Star Resources and Pilbara Minerals mine sites.

The new Cat 785, 789, and 793 trucks are built on a common platform that brings together cutting-edge electronics, a redesigned cab, and future-ready architecture to deliver the next generation of productive hauling. With over 30 new shared features across the different models, the Next Gen series is built to meet the demands of modern mining operations.

What makes these trucks different?

1. Cutting edge connectivity

Next Gen trucks are built for the digital mine. With integrated Cat MineStar connectivity, operators and fleet managers gain access to real-time data on truck health, performance, and productivity. These insights enable smarter decision-making, faster diagnostics, and seamless integration with mine-wide systems.

Connectivity isn’t just a feature, it’s a foundation for smarter mining, enabling you to make better, faster decisions.

2. Operator-focused environment

The larger redesigned walk-through cab puts operators first. From advanced high-resolution 10” touchscreens and a fully adjustable centre console to precise ergonomic controls, every detail is designed to enhance the comfort of the operator. The result? Safer, more productive shifts and a better overall experience for the people behind the wheel.

3. Productivity-boosting cab

Beyond comfort, the cab is designed to maximise output. The trucks’ internal environment has been designed for efficiency and equipped with features that automate functions and increased productivity.  Features including cruise control, enhanced automatic retarding control (ARC), speed coaching, AutoHoist, speed limiting and the improved payload monitoring system across models act to reduce the fatigue of operations and allow operators to work more efficiently.

4. Confidence-building controls

The control systems in Next Gen trucks are intuitive, responsive, and designed to inspire confidence in both new and experienced operators. Features include Cat Vision 360 surround view, an anti-lock brake system (ABS), hill start assist with anti-rollback, object detection, 2nd-gear start and Dynamic Stability Control (DCS) that improves the truck’s responsiveness and controllability. Whether operating manually or in autonomous deployment, the improvements offer greater stability, improved visibility and better truck responsiveness. This consistency across the fleet reduces training time and improves safety.

5. Improved maintenance

Simplified service and maintenance, lowers cost and reduces downtime. A new modular design Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) system enables it to be removed quickly without a HVAC technician in the field. The Next Gen trucks have remote troubleshooting, improved maintenance access enabling improved efficiency and serviceability of major components. These improvements help keep trucks on the job and reduce the total cost of ownership.

6. Future-proof platform

The Next Gen trucks are ready for what’s next. With built-in support for Autonomous Haulage Systems (AHS), reduction in emissions and optimised electronic architecture, the platform is designed to evolve with your operation. Whether you’re planning for autonomy today or tomorrow, these trucks are built for the future with easy technology solution integrations and designed to be updated.

Final thoughts

In my view, the Cat Next Gen Mining Trucks are a leap into the future of mining. These machines redefine what productivity and safety should look like on-site. With their advanced autonomous-ready architecture, real-time diagnostics, and operator-first design, they’re not only engineered for today’s challenges but built to perform better in tough future mining environments. The integration of smart systems and modular components makes them a game-changer for any operation serious about efficiency and sustainability. If you’re looking to future-proof your fleet, this is the benchmark to beat.
