Plant Mechanic

As a Mobile Plant Mechanic, you will be responsible for maintaining, diagnosing, and repairing heavy mobile equipment used across industries like mining, construction, earthmoving, and agriculture. You will work on a wide range of machinery, from excavators and loaders to diesel engines, hydraulic systems, transmissions, and other large-scale mechanical components. Your role focuses on keeping mobile plant machinery operating safely, efficiently, and with minimal downtime, because delays in plant operations can impact major mining and civil projects across the state. WesTrac in WA and NSW supports Plant Mechanic apprentices to complete a Dual Trade on completion of their apprenticeship.

Auto Electrician

As an Automotive Electrician, you will diagnose, maintain, and repair electrical and electronic systems on heavy mobile equipment and light vehicles across sectors such as mining, construction, earthmoving, and agriculture. You will work on machinery ranging from excavators and loaders to haul trucks and diesel-powered equipment with complex electrical and control systems. At WesTrac, you will ensure machinery operates safely and efficiently by maintaining key systems, including wiring, lighting, sensors, alternators, starters, and control modules. Because electrical faults can halt production instantly, they play a vital role in minimising downtime and supporting safe, reliable operations.

Fabricator (Boilermaker)

As a Fabricator (Boilermaker), you will measure, cut, shape and assemble raw material to construct and repair metal products and structures. At WesTrac, this includes fabrication, repairs, and maintenance on a wide range of Cat equipment, including buckets, trays, booms, track frames, handrails, ladders, platforms, kick rails, steps, and weld brackets.

First Class Machinist

As a First Class Machinist, you will set up and operate machine tools to shape and form metal stock and castings to fine tolerances, using detailed drawings and specifications. At WesTrac, this would include machining, assembly and manufacturing, CNC, precision grinding, horizontal boring and precision measurement, installation and modification of machinery, and testing and fault-finding of machinery.

Mechanical Fitter Machinist

As a Fitter Machinist, you will assemble, repair, and fit metal components for production machines and other equipment. You will be using a range of tools and engineering techniques to maintain and repair mechanical plant machinery and equipment to operational standards. At WesTrac, this would include disassembly and assembly of Cat components, hydraulic systems, precision measurement, diagnosis/fault finding, lathe operation, horizontal boring and milling machine operation.

Industrial Spray Painter

As an Industrial Spray Painter, you are responsible for preparing surfaces and applying paint or protective coatings to mobile plant equipment, rebuilt components or fabricated parts. This job is hands-on and detail-focused, which is crucial for presentation and component protection.
