Streamlining the daily grind with BKA Earthworx

If you’d told Bryce Adamson back in 2020 that compact track loaders would become the backbone of his livelihood, he probably would’ve laughed. But six years on, that’s exactly where the industry – and his business, BKA Earthworx – has taken him.

A trained plant mechanic with a sharp business instinct, Bryce followed the demand curve as it shifted toward forestry and land management. What started as a vision of running dozers and big excavators has evolved into something far more agile.

“Ninety per cent of our work now is vegetation management — slashing and mulching with compact track loaders,” Bryce says. “The market’s changed. People want cleaner, more controlled outcomes, not big dozer piles waiting to be burned in winter. Mulching has been a huge success for us.”

A Business Built with Mateship

Working alongside Bryce is Matt Fisher — a highly skilled operator and Bryce’s best mate for more than two decades. Their partnership has become a defining strength of the company.

“I don’t look at Matt as an employee,” Bryce says. “He’s someone I trust completely. Growing a business is stressful enough – doing it with someone you know inside out makes all the difference.”

Most days, Bryce handles client calls, job planning, and logistics before linking up with Matt on‑site. He believes the company’s growth comes down to something simple: showing up, communicating clearly, and treating customers like people, not transactions.

“It’s surprising how many clients tell us they’ve been ghosted by contractors,” he says. “We’ve built our reputation on being reliable and upfront. Listening properly and delivering exactly what people ask for goes a long way – especially when you’ve got quality gear that doesn’t let you down.”

Stepping Up with the Cat 299D3XE Land Management Package

In 2026, BKA Earthworx added a major upgrade to its fleet: the Cat 299D3XE Land Management package, paired with the Cat HM418 Bite Limiter Mulcher. It followed the success of their Cat 289D3, but rising workloads demanded more power, more cooling capacity, and more efficiency.

“After looking at the competition, I kept coming back to Caterpillar,” Bryce says. “The 299D3XE Land Management package ticked every box – power, cooling, protection, and the mulcher integration is spot‑on.”

The Bite Limiter technology has been a standout, allowing clean, single‑pass mulching rather than multiple forward‑and‑reverse cuts. It’s a professional‑grade tool that rewards operators who maintain sharp teeth and want a premium finish.

Bryce says the seamless machine‑attachment integration is a game‑changer for multi‑operator crews.

“You hook up every hose, the machine recognises the attachment, and high‑flow engages automatically. No guesswork. No wrong settings. It’s a no‑brainer.”

FITFLEET MAKES LIFE SO MUCH EASIER

Joel says Bryce is a great example of a customer who has made the move to Cat equipment based on the quality of the product, and stayed for the support on offer.

“We’ve found customers like Bryce will generally come back to buy their second and third machines due to the after-sales support you get at WesTrac,” Joel says. “This can consist of our FitFleet Customer Value Agreements for service, 24-hour parts ordering and availability, which combines to allow Bryce to focus on running his business and doing the work.”

Bryce says the added peace of mind this backup service provides is almost as valuable as the machinery itself.

“Coming from a maintenance background, I’m probably a little bit finicky and fussy about certain things, so I’ve previously done the majority of the maintenance on my own equipment,” he says.

“I can’t be in seven different places at once, so handing the maintenance side of things over to WesTrac with our FitFleet agreement has made life so much easier. When the agreed service interval comes around, they just call, ask when the machine’s available, and get it sorted.”

Built for Long Days in Harsh Conditions

The 299D3XE’s hydraulic oil cooler, reversing fan, and forestry‑grade guarding have proven essential for Australian conditions. The sealed, pressurised cab has also become a favourite.

“Mulching all day in the Aussie sun is exhausting,” Bryce says. “But the Cat cab layout is brilliant — simple, comfortable, and quiet. When you’re in the seat for 10 hours, that matters.”

Bryce says one of the biggest advantages of moving to Cat has been the after‑sales support, especially through FitFleet Customer Value Agreements.

“As someone with a maintenance background, I used to do everything myself,” he says. “But I can’t be everywhere at once. FitFleet has made life so much easier – they call when a service is due, book it in, and get it done.”

Parts ordering through Parts.Cat.Com has also streamlined his workflow.

“I don’t have time to chase parts during business hours. With PCC, I can order teeth for the mulcher or anything else at night from my phone, and it just turns up. No stress.”

Looking Ahead

With reliable machines, strong support, and a booming vegetation‑management market, Bryce and Matt are already eyeing their next Cat addition.

“As a business owner, you’ve got a million things to juggle,” Bryce says. “Caterpillar and WesTrac make the equipment side easy. It really is the full package.”
