Inside the FlexiParts dismantling and recovery process
To our customers, the process might look simple; you order a used component, and we deliver it. But behind that order is a meticulous, multistage workflow built around Caterpillar’s globally recognised reuse and salvage criteria.
1. Safe depollution
Every machine arrives containing fuels, oils, coolants and other fluids. Our team begins by fully draining, capturing and segregating all hazardous materials, ensuring nothing enters the environment. This step protects both workers and ecosystems and sets the stage for compliant dismantling.
2. Structured dismantling
Once depolluted, the machine is methodically disassembled. Engines, cylinders, final drives, hydraulic components and structural elements are removed, tagged and catalogued. This ensures complete traceability which is critical for maintenance planners and rebuild teams.
3. Inspection to meet the Caterpillar® reuse and salvage guidelines
Every component goes through detailed measurement and cleaning according to Caterpillar’s official Reuse and Salvage Guidelines. These guidelines set the thresholds for wear, fatigue, tolerances and repairability that determine whether a part is safe to return to service.
4. Repair, rebuild or recycle
Depending on inspection results, a part is:
- Approved for reuse
- Repaired or rebuilt through machining, re‑sealing or sub‑component replacement
- Rejected and responsibly recycled if outside Caterpillar specifications
This process mirrors the philosophy behind Cat® Reman, where parts are returned to “like new” performance through rigorous engineering and validation.
5. Documentation and quality assurance
Before any component goes back into the market, it receives condition reporting and clear classification. Customers know exactly what they’re buying—no guesswork.
