The WesTrac Support Behind WA Civil & Stone’s Success

For Jamie Puglia, earthmoving is in his blood - but running a small civil business demands extra support and knowledge he can count on. From remote jobs to rapid parts access, WesTrac has become the partner that keeps WA Civil & Stone moving, growing and taking on bigger opportunities with confidence.

For Jamie Puglia, owner of WA Civil & Stone, earthmoving is more than a trade, it’s a family legacy stretching back generations.

“Mum and Dad had an earthmoving business. Uncles, even my aunties – everyone was in it.”

“It was always something I wanted to do.”

He started young, learned fast, and eventually built a business that now operates across Western Australia, specialising in detailed earthworks, road construction, and civil projects.

But running a small civil business comes with pressure. Every job depends on reliability — machines starting, parts arriving, deadlines being met.

“A good day is when everything runs smoothly and everyone comes home safe,” Jamie says. “A bad day is when things go wrong and it costs you money.”

Before choosing WesTrac, those bad days were far too common. Parts delays, breakdowns, and long waits for support made it difficult to keep jobs on track.

“Parts and failures were some of my biggest challenges.”

“Trying to locate parts to get machines back up and running — that was tough.”

That need for reliability is what led Jamie to WesTrac, where he purchased his very first Cat® machine.

Jamie’s first Cat machine was a used model with 5,000 hours on it — and is still used in his fleet today. What impressed him wasn’t just the machine itself, but the support that came with.

“A lot of our work is remote,” he explained.

“With other brands, getting parts was a struggle. But WesTrac has dealerships everywhere. They’re really easy to deal with.”

Earthmoving is a Family Business

His first major purchase through WesTrac was a new Cat 255 Compact Track Loader and a used Cat 250 Skid Steer Loader from Paul Niven in the Used Equipment team

“Buying my first machines from WesTrac was a really good experience.”

“The same rep I spoke to on day one, Paul, is still helping me today. Whatever I want, he finds,” Jamie said.

That ongoing support became a defining part of the relationship, with Jamie realising the big mining companies weren’t WesTrac’s only priority.

“A decade ago, I felt like WesTrac only had their sights set on serving bigger companies,” he said.

“But in the last couple of years, WesTrac has really started looking after us small guys. We can see that.”

Jamie said it was that shift that made him feel truly valued as a customer.

While the finance and machine delivery was particularly fast, the team took their time to walk him through every detail.

“New Cat gear has a lot of buttons and is packed with cutting-edge technology, it’s like buying a fighter jet,” he joked.

“But WesTrac’s training team ran us through everything. They did a really good job.”

Since then, Jamie’s described the ongoing support as “ten out of ten.” When a paperwork mix‑up occurred on a machine order, WesTrac fixed it immediately. And when his younger brother Brendan from West Blade Civil experienced a factory‑related issue with a new machine, WesTrac replaced it with a next‑gen model.

“WesTrac went above and beyond then, and I know they’ll go above and beyond now.”

“That’s why my brother and I stay with them,” he said.

That support has enabled WA Civil & Stone to not only expand in size, but capability. With reliable equipment and strong dealer backing, Jamie has been able to take on larger civil projects, expand into remote regions, and build a reputation for professionalism.

“We wouldn’t be able to offer that level of service to our clients without the background support from WesTrac.”

“Downtime costs us money and costs the client time. Our aim is to keep the client happy — that’s how everyone gets paid,” he said.

For Jamie, value is about loyalty, comfort, and confidence. While he loves the Cat machines for their comfort, sealed cabs, and technology — it’s the relationship with WesTrac that keeps him coming back.

“Loyalty goes both ways,” he said. “I stick with WesTrac and they stick with me.”

He also wants other small businesses to know they’re welcome.

“A lot of people think WesTrac is just for the big end of town,” he said.

“But smaller guys like my brother and I can shop there too. It’s affordable, and the finance options are well put together.”

When asked to sum up WesTrac in one sentence, Jamie’s answer is matter of fact:

“With WesTrac, I know they’ll always have my back.”
