In this interview we chat with Ricky Reynolds, a 39-year old mature age first year apprentice who started training at WesTrac Tomago in 2018.
Having already worked at WesTrac for over five years as a Tradesman's Assistant, I have seen the career opportunities available. The possibilities for growth and development are huge - for people of all ages. Why WesTrac specifically? I'm looking forward to learning a whole range of new skills that will enable me to confidently work on the huge range of Cat machines in the industry. I've seen co-workers do this for years and now felt like the right time to take the next step in my career.
Nothing can prepare you for the sheer size of the Cat machines you get to work on, especially the mining equipment. A single machine could be as big as a small house. Working on equipment like that is both challenging and exciting. Also, just how big the work opportunities are due - WesTrac is a big company with over 3,000 employees, career progression and upskilling are a big part of the culture here.
