Technology takes centre stage at Diggers and Dealers 2020

Leading Cat® dealer WesTrac has experienced a big year when it comes to technology, delivering a range of Cat Next Generation equipment, partnering with Newmont to deliver a fleet of Cat 793F autonomous trucks and launching its Technology Training Centre in Collie.

The technology focus is set to continue at Diggers & Dealers in Kalgoorlie next week, with WesTrac showcasing the Cat MineStar™ solution, designed to help mine sites improve productivity, efficiency and safety.

While MineStar™ is not a new release, according to WesTrac CEO Jarvas Croome it has evolved in line with the mining industry’s move towards more sustainable and efficient operations.

“MineStar™ focuses on some of the key factors that are shaping the mining industry of the future,” Mr Croome said.

“That includes helping owners and operators control their costs, extend the life of equipment, boost productivity on site and most importantly, protect the safety of their operators.

“It’s a customisable suite of tools providing a whole range of business value, from real-time fleet tracking and monitoring equipment health, to assisting operators with greater awareness of their surroundings, and providing varying degrees of autonomous technology to suit an operation.”

A key focus of the event, aligned to WesTrac’s recent launch of its autonomous operations training facility in Collie, will be Cat MineStar™ Command.

The technology allows operators to implement different types of automation, from remote control of a single process to management of a fully autonomous fleet of haulage vehicles. According to Mr Croome, Cat Command is fast becoming a standard technology for mine sites running Cat equipment for haulage, dozing, drilling and underground operations.

“As the industry transitions at varying rates towards more automation, Cat Command is a vital component to assist in the interaction of equipment that may comprise human operation, semi and fully autonomous operations,” he said.

To showcase the technology, WesTrac is turning to more technology. A key feature of the Diggers & Dealers Gala Dinner on Wednesday night, of which WesTrac is the major sponsor, will be an innovative hologram display of a range of Cat equipment.

There will also be a focus on the new Next Generation Cat 6060 Hydraulic Mining Shovel and the R1700 Underground Mining Loader which has automation capabilities.

WesTrac can be found at Stand 102 at Diggers & Dealers.
