Training the key to game-winning performance

operator training delivers better results all round

Operator training can help you understand the features and functions of your Cat machine to get the best performance possible, and the WesTrac Institute can provide all the coaching you need.

As the saying goes, it’s not just what you’ve got, but how you use it.

That’s especially the case when it comes getting the best out of your Cat machine. If you’re able to master all the features and technology available on your machine right away, you’ll gain a winning edge over the competition. But incorrect use could mean safety, productivity, quality and efficiency are compromised. So how do you get the best out of your machine?

The WesTrac Institute (RTO ID 50737) is here to connect you to the best coaches – and the best training - in the business.

Delivered by experienced and certified Operator Trainers, a phased approach is offered, ranging from familiarisation packages delivered on machine handover, to more in-depth, one-on-one operator training to develop operator skills to make the most of the machine’s capabilities.

Do I need more training?

Each new Cat machine model includes a range of standard new features and enhancements, as well as options you may not have previously seen. That is particularly the case when it comes to Next Gen Mini Excavators and D3 Series Skid Steer and Compact Track Loaders; so, a basic level of familiarisation is recommended to get you and your machine working together as one team.

We offer two types of training through the WesTrac Institute:

  • Familiarisation training
  • Operator training

Familiarisation training provides the hands-on, practical foundations required to do the work and knock over jobs with ease. The introductory training is typically delivered at your site and includes safety, familiarity and basic operating procedures including:

  • Description of machine and operator safety procedures
  • Explanation of maintenance and inspection requirements
  • Identification of operator controls
  • Startup and shutdown procedures
  • Basic operating procedures

Operator training is designed for operators with at least a basic level of Cat machine operating experience, providing the opportunity to develop skills and support machine optimisation. With this level of training, you’d be ensuring a quality finish on every job.

Training is hands-on, delivered at your site and tailored to your needs.

In addition to the machine familiarisation procedures described above, operator training includes operating procedures aligned to industry requirements and earthmoving fundamentals, helping operators develop skills to operate equipment safely and proficiently

Key topics covered include:

  • Trenching
  • Moving (Tramming)
  • Lifting-Swinging
  • Backfilling
  • Truck Loading
  • Next Gen Technology for Mini Excavators
  • D3 Series Technology for Skid Steer & Compact Track Loaders

When it comes to more advanced operator training, there’s a whole range of competencies that come into play. If you’ve got a few operators on your team and you want to ensure they’re all up to scratch, contact the WesTrac Institute to discuss your training needs and ensure your team is playing to win.
